We know there’s more to life than studying and that a lot of what you’ll get out of your time at LIS will happen outside the classroom.
As an LIS student, you’ll be part of the fast-paced, intensive, and fun journey of building a new university. That means you’ll have a unique opportunity to play a key role in co-creating events and establishing clubs, societies, and traditions that future students will enjoy for years to come.
You'll have the opportunity to get involved in a number of diverse pursuits and activities at LIS. Our SXP team actively curates a broad range of events and activities that both complement your studies and help you develop new interests - and, have fun!

Social events
Some events simply exist to create community, stimulate creativity, or clear your mind. Student & staff competitions, open mic nights, clothes swaps, end-of-term parties and film nights are some of the ways our student body comes together to just relax and have fun.
Co-curriculars
We organise a range of activities to complement your learning. Our students can expect guest talks, industry visits, competitions, film nights, professional events, and much more.
When our students were studying inequality, we toured Whitechapel with a former rough sleeper, before screening a film of gentrification in east London accompanied by a Q&A with the film’s director.
When our students worked on a sustainable policy project, we toured a revolutionary inner-city agriculture site, and made the most of all the sustainability themed exhibitions London’s museums had to offer.
LISSA
The LIS Student Association - or, LISSA - is LIS’ version of a Student Union. The LISSA board manages all LIS clubs and societies, connects with other Student Unions in London, and organises social events. All students at LIS are automatically LISSA members - and, if you want to get more involved, the board of LISSA is elected annually and consists of students from all cohorts.
Some of our student-led clubs & societies are sports-based (football, climbing, boxing) and others are interest-based (music, podcasting, exploring cultures, LGBT+, art).
If you want to launch your own club or society, go for it. We’ll provide you with the support to make it happen.
LIS Lates are a curated guest speaker series where thought-leaders and professionals from a range of backgrounds come onto campus to discuss their life, work, and ideas. Below are some examples of the talks we've held before.

We care about our students and want to help build your confidence and resilience whilst at LIS.
Our support offering includes drop-ins and 1:1 meetings with our Head of Student Support, mindfulness and yoga, and access to counselling and other local NHS services. We also offer workshops on managing stress, anxiety, sleep, organisation, and finances.
Our Head of Student Support is on hand to listen and provide advice, guidance, and support on any difficulty you may have.
